You colleagues are wonderful! I am basically a "lurker" but the few times I have asked for help you have been fantastic. Thank you one and all! I have compiled the responses I received and here is briefly the results: Use a mixture of Tide liquid detergent and Clorox bleach with hot water. Wipe each book front, back spine and pages with the book closed. Can also wipe down inside the covers. Be sure to do to all books one shelf: mildew spreads! Sunshine, drier sheets, lysol spray Wipe down with a solution of 50% white vinegar and 50% water. Wipe the covers, spines and edges with a cloth dampened with the solution.. If you plan to use the rag again, wash in a strong bleach solution Put the book in a plastic bag (grocery bag will do) and cat litter. Close tightly. Let stay for a week or two and check . Febreeze can be sprayed gently on the book--stand the book in the sun. This gets rid of the smell These suggestions are very much appreciated. Thanks again.
