Thank you to everyone who provided me with information about discarding books. Most school divisions do have policies in place for the removal of items from the collection. Some give them away, some sell them, some send them to auction and many do indeed put them in black garbage bags and put them in the dumpster. A helpful custodial staff is a great asset here. Everyone agreed that the general public does not understand the need for weeding. They only see their tax dollars being thrown away. The person who requested the information was amazed at the number of responses and how quickly they came. I told him that I had a network of friends that serve as the 'librarian's librarian'. Thanks again.
