Target: Elem. Book title

I've got a tricky book title to try and figure out and not much to go on...
my music teacher requests a book he used last year (although he says he
didn't get it from my library, he can't remember where he got it!)
He thinks it is something like _Joe and the Two Sticks_ or "some short boy
name with sticks"!
Something about the boy getting two sticks and figuring out he can make
music with them.  We tried a keyword search with "sticks" "music" and "joe"
but nothing.  Is this remotely familiar to anyone?  I'd sure be a hero if I
could get this mystery book located!
