Our school system is opening 2 new elementary school in September 2000. We are considering adding a video distribution/media retrieval system to the schools. We have looked at the TIMS (Total Interactive Media Systems), Rauland-Borg's Telecenter IP, AMX's Synergy, and Dukane's Smart System. We are comparing this to a "master classroom" in which each teacher would have her own 27" PC ready TV/Monitor, VCR, laser disk player, and stereo (boom box). The cost difference between the 2 scenarios is approximately $38,000. Obviously, the media retrieval system is more expensive. For those of you with a media retrieval system, what are your opinions? What system do you have? Do you like your system? What are its advantages and disadvantages? Can you see the justification for the additional expenditures? I have to defend the expense for a media retrieval system on December 9. I would appreciate any feedback and post a hit with the responses. TIA Jody H.
