I began my career as an assistant to a librarian who was a reading teacher but not a professional librarian. She had taken over from a professional librarian that left the school for another position. This woman, though not a professional, greatly improved the library and when she left upon my certification I took over and improved it even more. My point is: while I know it is frustrating to work in a profession where qualifications for the job are often compromised - shouldn't those of us who ARE certified librarians and media specialists work to bring up those that aren't? There is excellence and mediocrity on both ends of our professional spectrum. I think it is up to all of us who care about information literacy, libraries, and children to work from within to improve our profession, our status, and our peers. And this is JMHO... :-) Susan Grigsby, LMS The Epstein School, Atlanta Georgia sgrigsby@epstein-atl.org What is hateful to you, do not to another: this is the whole Torah, the rest is commentary.
