They are, in the case of the operating system (Win9x, for example) used to get data when you modify or add functions not part of your base installation without needing to find the CD. If you have sufficient hard disk space, I'd keep them. If you don't, I'd BE SURE you have the CD from which they came, and erase them. If you have a good techy there, and a network, you can move the cab files to your server, and do a registry modification to point appropriately ... one copy for all the identical machines.
