Without knowing what area of librarianship your daughter is going
into--public schools, university level, public libraries, special
libraries--it's hard to give just one reference for a book about libraries
that is nonfiction---there are so-o-o many! However, as a school librarian
I highly recommend "The Indispensable Librarian" by Doug Johnson. We used
it as a "text" but I'm finished with my MLIS and I now keep it on my desk as
a reference--or even a "pick-me-up"--when I need to find fast information
relating to issues that school librarians face daily! This book is a "great
read" and one that I've enjoyed recommending to others! I think my
professor made a wise choice in selecting it because it was practical and
useful to me--and I hope to others in the school library section of the
profession. (Aside from Information Power, I don't have many of my texts
sitting around my desk at work--so this book is one that I really like!)

There are others that I have on shelves throughout my home---but this is my
favorite! (From a "non-fiction-reader-for-fun" type person....I actually
pick nonfiction books up more often than fiction!) Oh, dear....I must get a
life! (Or help with getting the next Harry Potter books out...I'm suffering
from my recent but unexpected "fiction exposure" with the Potter books, now
I'm hooked on the genre!) But I digress...good luck! Happy Reading!
