I have been following the discussion concerning the dilemma of whether to purchase encyclopedias in print. If you purchase an on-line subscription to an encyclopedia and you pay the fee this year in order to use it again next year you have to pay the fee again. Otherwise it's gone forever as a resource. This makes the on-line versions very expensive because you only have access for the length of the subscription. The cost of equipment and continually upgrading software is also very expensive. At the rate that technology is expanding and changing every computer should be replaced in a five year cycle. If anyone is interested I have an outline from a term paper that I wrote titled "Can Print Survive in an Electronic Communications Age?" If you would like a copy of this outline please let me know and I will forward it to you.
