I hope this isn't a dumb question but...
I had a teacher ask me what criteria was used to designate a book as a
classic. I have to admit that I could name some classics and could name some
common features of them but I did not really know what (or who) designates a
particular book as a classic. Can someone answer this for me?  TIA  :-)
