I didn't get too many suggestions--titles follow below. I also saw a
advertisement for a book called Before She Gets Her Period by Gillooly
that looks interesting. It can be read by the child and the
parents--even dad. Another verbal recommendation I received was for
Growing Up-Its a Girl Thing by Jukes--an edited version of her It's A
Girl Thing title.

Great book...paperback...called "What's Happening to Me?" by Peter
Mayle, illustrated by Arthur Robins, ISBN 0-8184-0312-8. Very humorous
approach to puberty. Kids love it and parents find its content factual,
but in a lighter vein. They also wrote "Where Did I Come From?" which
is equally good. Don't be put off by the 1975 and 1973 publication
dates. These are worth looking into. I purchased my new copies from
Barnes & Noble.

Bourgeois, Paulette Changes in you and me : a book about puberty
mostly for girls Bourgeois, Paulette. Changes in you and me : a book
about puberty mostly for boys. They are a little advanced for 2nd grade
but the books are very comfortable and non-threatening.

I have always been a fan of Linda Madaras and her "What's Happening to
My Body Book for Boys" and "...for Girls." Very straightforward,
positive works.

I also own many of Rosen's _Coping_ series books; they have one called
"Now that You've Got Your Period."   Lighter, less information;
Readable, at a guess, down to the fourth or fifth grade level.
