Aloha - One of my fifth grade teachers came to me with a question about Julie of the Wolves. Her partner in fifth grade this year does not want to use it because of the "spousal rape" (her words) scene. The teacher has used it for the past three years with no problem, and now is wondering if she should use it again this year over the objections of the other teacher. I checked the archives regarding possible challenges to Julie of the Wolves - and did find one mention of a "rape scene" - but all I found were questions asking for information - I did not come across a hit regarding this. I have multiple sources listing Julie of the Wolves as suitable for ages 10 up and grades 5 - 8 ... and my teacher would really like to use the book again. Do you have any reinforcement - or word about other challenges to the book regarding this section that would help her to feel better? *** Candace Foster Librarian, Aina Haina Elementary 801 Hind Drive Honolulu, HI 96821 candacef@kalama.doe.hawaii.edu =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-==-= All postings to LM_NET are protected under copyright law.
