Colleagues: As you well know, we librarians HATE being stumped. Between you and me, I am standing at that odious threshold of failure and shame right now-- unless YOU can save me. Here's the question that has me just about licked: A music teacher (One of my very bestest patrons!) has asked me to come up with some background on an American folk song called "Charlotte-Town" which her students will be performing soon. The lyrics in the song are sketchy and repetitive and say "Charlotte-Town is burning down" repeatedly as well as a reference to "Paddling down the Ohio." Other than that, there isn't much to gnaw on. Now: There are Charlotte-Towns in the West Indies (aka Gouyave) and P.I.E, Canada, but I think those can be safely ruled out. I initially thought it might have something to do with Charlotte, NC and Cornwallis' occupation or maybe the confederate strongholds there during the Civil War -but what about the Ohio river? I doesn't jive, does it? If you can help me, please do! I am ready and willing to take full credit for your knowledge and efforts. Jeffrey Hastings SMLS Highlander Way Middle (are you CRAZY?!)
