Need black authors/illustrators and scientists

I am compiling a list of black authors/illustrators for a 5th grade black
history month research project.  Please let me know of any you can think of so
I have lots of choices for the students.  And how about scientists who are not
inventors for a 3rd grade project?  Thanks, as usual!
