Tech: HP printer and OS .8X

Help!

I have a month old G3, OS 8.5, and am in advanced frustration.  I can't get
it to print on my HP Deskwriter C printer, although it will print to a
Stylewriter.

Appletalk is off, correct port choosen, connections fine,

Error message is 'printer not responding.'

HP has no new serial Deskwriter driver at its website.

Apple has no HP printer/OS/ conflict info at it's site.

I'm not a beginner or expert. .but this is really stumping me.
(What does the average non-tech consumer do without people like you?!)
