We found a celebration called Hoodie-Hoo Day, that is a day to chase the winter away. We thought this would be a fun activity to do with our students. Then a staff member warned us that it is an offensive phrase for African Americans. Now, we are very worried about offending people, but we have already advertised this day. If you know of any derogatory connotations with this phrase, could you please explain this to some potentially niave teachers in small-town NY?
