This is an interesting topic. Since I am also a K-12 art teacher, I have long been interested in the relationship between drawing/reading ability. In my K-2 classes, I can tell when they begin to fully grasp the concept of reading as their artwork also improves. I don't know if there is any research to support this, but I haven't been proven wrong yet! Yet, interestingly enough, by the middle school years, some of these same students become some of my most talented artists. I am wondering if by this age, they spend more time "practicing" their drawing because it is something they are successful at. Of course, a "good eye" is imperative to being an artist. I have very mixed emotions over the Waldo type books, because those visual skills are important, yet so is reading! Just pondering......
