Many thanks to this wonderful group for all the suggestions on the theme of
kites, reading, and learning. A number of folks requested a HIT, which
follows below.

I still remember most of the words of the chorus to "Let's Go Fly a Kite"
from Mary Poppins. It was the very last song in the movie. Very
uplifting. This is what I remember of it:

Let's go fly a kite, up to the highest height.
Let's go fly a kite and send it soaring.
Up through the atmosphere, up where the air is clear.
 Oh! Let's go--fly a kite.

The rest of the song has inspirational words too. If you rent the movie
and ffward to the end, you'll remember it!

High Flyers for Reading

Up, Up, and Away with Reading
The Sky's the Limit - Read
Fly High With Reading

Just off the top of my head!
...............
 "The Sky's the Limit! READ!"
"Reading Can Take You Higher" or "Reading Can Take You Higher Than a Kite!"

"Feel the Electricity! Read!" or "Reading Is the Key" or "Reading Is
Electric"
(Put large cardboard keys covered with gold or silver foil on all the kite
strings)

Just looking at a catalog from Highsmith and saw this on a banner they have
for sale:Imagination is the highest kite one can fly. Might be a good
banner to purchase to put up: Item #E99-57306, $3.95. 8"Hx10'Long.
 1-800-558-2110. (Catalog E99, Spring 1999, pg. 10)
 ............

I have always used "Fly High With Books".
..............
How about something related to soaring? "Let your dreams soar" "Let your
hopes soar" "Reading takes you higher"
..............

From "The Goose and the Box Kite--a Fable" in _Kiteworks: Explorations in
Kite Building & Flying_ by Maxwell Eden, Sterling Publishing, c1989, pp.
 125-127.

"Just listen. If you want to be noticed, you must show more of yourself.
In the case of the wind, you must change your attitude, your shape, and
present more of what you are to the available fates and breezes." [goose
 says to box kite]

"The idea is not to change what you are but to make the best of what you've
got," said the bird...

Miscellaneous information from the same source, p. 94 "More books on
kiting have been written by the Japanese than by any other nationality.
The most prolific of these authors is Kazuo Niisak, who wrote about 20 kite
 books between 1969 and 1987."
......
Or better yet, hold a slogan contest and have your students come up with them.
 .........
Thanks again!
