Going West by Jean Van Leeuwen

Have any of you read this book?  I was just thumbing through it, and it
seems to me that the events in this book are almost taken word for word
from the Laura Ingalls Wilder books. I can't believe it got published.
Have any of you ever noticed the similarities???
