GEN: How to check email on vacation

Hello Friends!
        I know someone has addressed this issue before but I haven't been able to
find it in the archives.  How can we check email from a remote location
(like when we're on vacation?)  I know you can go into Preferences and
change the settings, but I seemed to remember that there is a site on the
web that will allow you to get to your ISP and check email without changing
the Preferences.  Does anyone have this info?  Thanks!
