Our district is looking at purchasing classroom sets of AlphaSmarts or Dreamwriters to use in the elementary schools as a traveling lab. One of the main purposes for having this lab is to relieve our computer lab of the time it takes to teach keyboarding skills. Has anyone used the newer models of either of these for keyboarding instruction? Is there a way to test speed and accuracy? How well do they work? I'm also wondering when most schools begin keyboarding instruction. It seems like with the increased access of computers in our schools, the technology skills are moving to lower grade levels all the time. I use AlphaSmarts at the high school and am very happy with their durability and ease of use. I check them out just like books and the kids love them. I haven't had a chance to look at the keyboarding program for them though. Please reply to my home e-mail address. Thanks for any advice you can give me. Carla L.
