Many thanks to all of you AOL users for your responses--glad to see (gee, I don't know if I should be glad or not...I hate it that so many people are having similar problems) that perhaps it's not just "me." Here's a hit of some suggestions I received--I will definitely try them. I really do like using AOL & would prefer not to change Internet providers at this time--I feel comfortable moving around in it. Rosalie McDuffie, Media Specialist Columbus High School 1700 Cherokee Avenue Columbus, GA 31906 * Sounds like your copy of AOL has been damaged and you need to try reinstalling it. AOL sometimes gets damaged, especially if it freezes up or isn't shut down properly and stuff starts to get funny. Usually the web browser is the first thing to go. I would suggest saving your .org files (have your Screen names and .org), uninstalling AOL, then reinstalling it. Log on, then off, and replace the .org files just made by AOL with the saved ones. Should fix it. * everytime that happens to me I : clean out all the .TMP files, or reboot. Once when nothing worked, I did call AOL, and they helped me walk through a few steps...a new program must have reconfigured the AOL files. * I have found that after I have been online for a long time it takes longer to load the pages. At the beginning, they load right away, and then later they take forever. All I do is sign off and then on again and that solves the problem. This is troublesome when it is in the evening and it takes 10 minutes to sign in. I don't have 10 minutes to waste to be signing off and on again. I am hoping AOL takes care of these problems soon! * Yes, same problem. Have had it for a while. It is annoying. I keep thinking that the program is just loading slowly or the site is busy. * Maybe it is your local dial up number??? * AOL regularly times me out. Then I can't even access my email from my district site. * AOL told me that they could not ascertain that I was there, so timed me out. It was suggested that I set up a chat room with just myself in it, then go on to the web. That way AOL would know that I was online. I have tried this, and it does help some. * I have not had any trouble accessing the web, but it seem that lately every time after I do my computer locks up and I have to restart it. It may just be my computer though because I think it needs a new battery and some other work done. * I have been having problems too. I get kicked off or "punted." I just get logged on and before I can open mail or anything else, I hear "Good-bye." It has been better yesterday and today, though. * I was having trouble staying on line; after about 60 seconds I was disconnected. I went into Setup and used some other numbers for my city and haven't had any trouble since. Maybe that would help you. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-==-= All postings to LM_NET are protected under copyright law.
