With the permission of my principal I am posting the job information for my
own library media specialist position as I have recently accepted a position
at a college. Please e-mail or call if you have any questions about the
position. I will be out of state the week of July 19.

Jr.- Sr. High School Librarian at Auburn Jr. High and High School,
Auburn, Illinois, a small town just south of Springfield, IL the state
capital. Currrently about 500 students in grades 7-12. 2000-01 school
year will encompass grades 5-12. Both jr. high and high school libraries
are fully automated using CASPR LibraryWorld. Every classroom is Internet
accessible. Accelerarated Reader is used successfully throughout the
district. Member of fantastic library system with daily interlibrary loan
delivery.
Requirements: must be teacher certified, MLS preferred, 18 hours in
library science sufficient. Candidates without library science background
will be considered if they have willingness to obtain MLS and sufficient
experience working in libraries.

When I started 5 years ago, fresh out of college I had a BA in English
education and 0 library hours but experience in my high school and college
library. I started library school at the U of I with the understanding that
I needed to earn 18 hours in library science before the start of my second
school year. Within 3 years I had finished my MLS. Administrators are
encouraging to teachers working on graduate studies and open to new ideas.
Our county has a school librarian's network that meets monthly to discuss
library issues which is very helpful.

Leslie Starasta, Librarian
