Wow, What enthusiastic and supportive responses I got!! I thank each and everyone of you. As many other first timers requested the results, I am posting a HIT. The response was: #1. Get to know your other coworkers and greet them by name. Find old yearbooks, lists with grades and subjects taught, etc. to accomplish this. #2. The custodian(s) and other staff appreciate your friendly smile and they usually help you throughout the year, so treat them just as you do credentialed staff. #3. Get the feel of the place. Learn where the faculty lounge is, bathroom, copier, etc. #4. Spend a lot of time in your library, looking at the books you have, pulling them off the shelves, etc. #5. If already automated, practice using the system. #6. find copies of the library rules and circulation policies in place. #7. Put together a list of library rules, list of the services the library will provide to the classrooms. #8. Prepare any bulletin boards you will want to use. #9. Make sure you know how to operate the audio visual equipment. #10. Ask the principal and/or business secretary how they want invoices, purchase orders and requisitions handled. #11. get approval from the principal for the library rules, letters to parents, memos to teachers. #12. plan as much as you can. #13. read, read and read! Thank You again!!! Stephanie W.
