Re: Reading Quotations and gender

        Thanks to all who gathered the quotations about reading and
libraries--there are many wonderful gems there. Since some of them are quite
old, it is not surprising to find a good number with gender-biased
language--lots of man, mankind, he. Before we distribute or post these
quotes, let's take a few minutes to make sure they are inclusive. Changing a
word or two will in all cases do the trick. If we then write (adapted) after
the author's name, my resident lawyer assures me we are not violating the
letter or spirit of copyright.
        One more thing--surely Tomie de Paola said "My pile of books IS a
mile high, not ARE."
        Thanks to all who keep posting in summer--it really helps me gather
momentum for fall.
