I must have missed the original post but I want to tell about our Auhor
Studies. I worked with a small group of third graders. Each child picked
a popular author whose work they enjoyed. They were Francine Pascal,
Marc Brown, Matt Christopher, Eric Carle, Paula Danziger, Roald Dahl and
Jan Brett. The children used the Junior Book of Authors and Illustrators
as well as the Internet to get information. One student even e-mailed
Jan Brett and received an answer in 30 mins.. Once the information was
gathered and reports were put together, we held a school assembly for
the K-3 classes. Each child stood at a table surrounded by copies of the
author's works and read his report. The participants enjoyed the
activity and the audience was enthusiastic.
