Yes, please, let's have some book discussion on LMNET. Of course, there are book discussions elsewhere on the net but these are mostly public librarians and booksellers who have a VERY different perspective on the usefulness/appropriateness of books. We have curricular issues, financial issues, appropriateness issues, etc. that are not often discussed on those lists. If we REALLY pay attention to the LMNET rules on posts (starting with GEN, REF, HIT, TARGET, ELEM, MID, SEC, TECH and whatever else) and please, please, eliminate the cute signatures and the posts that really don't seem to have anything to do with our professional practice the list may still be as wonderful as it is now. I know I sound grouchy and in the summer I really don't mind reading the more personal postings. In fact, they do make me feel a part of a larger community and less isolated (boy, do I sound conflicted!). Maybe what we need is a new list for school librarians to discuss more personal issues: travel plans, recipes, health issues, favors for friends, etc. Anyone willing to moderate/own this?
