And finally, Part III...

Not to colaborate is to ignore instructions most valuable resource!
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I just gave a powerpoint presentation to my faculty on this topic, and some
of the reasons were: 1 - Collaboration ensures that the materials you need
are at your fingertips when you need them...2 - Collaboration is necessary
so that the media center will HAVE the materials that you need (ie..."sorry,
I have no resources for gothic art reproduced in black marble..."). They
always find themost obscure thing to ask for two days before the students
are assigned...3- Collaboration eases the strain of trying to teach skills
natural to
the library setting, while also meeting the classroom's "ever-increasing"
workload...4- media specialists know more about obtaining information than
any other profession...5
- media specialists have resources that classrooms couldn't afford, due to
the fact we have bigger budgets/collections than the individual
classrooms....
----------------------------------------------------------------------
support research efforts for students
learn about lesson plans available on the web
learn about bringing the web into the classroom
guarantee that students/teachers are fully aware of all media
  resources
hands-on computer support
----------------------------------------------------------------------
1. United we stand divided we fall
2. Build on each others strengths
3. Idea sharing creates more ideas
4. Networking
5. Fun
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I don't know if I have 5, but...
1. Only by working collaboratively with teachers am I able to truly
have impact on such areas of instruction as designing the assignments,
how they are taught and assessed. 2. Being the only lms in the building is
isolated enough. Working collaboratively with teachers allows us to know
one another better as colleagues and personally. Through these
relationships, I am empowered to offer more customized services to the
teachers and students. 3. I do not have a captive audience of students as a
class. For me to work more effectively, and directly with groups of
students, I must work with the teachers. That's only three, but they are my
top three. Hope that is helpful.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
1. Benefits the students, teachers, and school community as a whole
2. Better enables LMS to ensure the collection reflects the needs of the
students and faculty
3. Enables the LMS to collaborate with the public librarian, therby
increasing productivity and ability to help the students
4. It is really fun!
5. Good PR for the library and the teacher
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Student learning becomes authentic
More staff are available to brainstorm information sources

THE END! THANKS!
