Hi! I have to tell you about a bingo game I made this weekend. Using a scanner and Adobe Photo Shop, I scanned 32 picture book characters that I know my students are familiar with - Arthur, Viola Swamp, The Very Hungry Caerpiller, etc. Using the Adobe Photoshop software, I trimmed each scanned picture into a 1 inch square. I added the character's name underneath each photo. Then I printed the small squares. Using Clarisworks drawing feature I made a grid of one and a half inch squares, five squares by five squares. I cut and rubber cement-ed the photos onto two of the grids and took it to a shop that makes color copies. My fifth grade daughter and I spent about four hours Satuday night cutting the tiny squares apart and randomly rubber cement-ing them onto the grids to make the bingo boards. The grids were glued onto construction paper, and I added a title "Library Bingo", and put smiley stickers in the middle "free" spot. I wanted to laminate them, but with yesterday being Memorial Day I couldn't find a place that was open to do it, so this morning I stuck them in report covers. That was a blessing is disguise, because today's classes found a few mistakes of two identical characters on the same bingo card. Since they weren't laminated it was easy to swap characters. We are using big white dry navy beans for place markers, and the local wholesale shop had Tootsie Pops for prizes, and we are having a ball! Hope this helps you! Karen DeFrank Dorothy L.
