Attaching barcodes

HELP, HELP, HELP!!!!!

We are in the process of automating the district libraries using Alexandria.
 We have sent out our shelf list and are waiting for the barcodes and
records.  We need to estimate how long it will take to attach the barcodes
since now we will be moving into the summer and will be paid by the hour.
Does anyone know of a per item estimate or has anyone done this recently?  I
have about 8000 items to barcodes.  Please send any advice you have.
