Dear Colleagues,
I have just been informed, much to my dismay, that library time will
become release time for teachers next year. In addition, my scheduled time
with the students will double(i will have 24 sections). Half of the time I
will be the "computer teacher" and then move the students to the adjoining
media center for a library lesson. I will also become the computer trouble
shooter for the school. I have had no training as a computer teacher or
trouble shooter. This will virtually wipe out any flexible time I had
available for extra classes and individual assistance. This moves my program
in the opposite direction from where I think it should be going. Secondary
librarians are not being asked to do this. I am very disheartened!
Please give me your advice. We have a typing program and only a few
other programs. Any recommendations for software (K-6) or curricula would
be enormously appreciated.
Have any of you faced this situation? What did you do? Since this is a
"low cost" means of solving the problem, I doubt that it will be changed. I
don't understand why a commitment can't be made to hire a real computer
teacher.
