Historical price comparisons

I am looking for sources, print or online, that would compare what
various items cost, what salaries were, etc. in 1869 as compared today.
I found one Internet site that was somewhat useful.  Would Historical
Statistics of the U.S. to 1970 be what I am looking for?  Do you have
some other ideas?  Thanks, Michele Missner
