Our principal would like to know if there are guidelines which she and our = journalism teacher might use when trying to determine whether or not a = student journalist has overstepped the boundaries of what's acceptable = for print in a school newspaper. The principal and advisor don't want to censor or to otherwise refuse to = let something be printed just because the content is offensive to some = readers. At the same time, we know realistically that there are some = boundaries and limitations in school journalism and that intervention may = sometimes be warranted. Bottom line is not only one of censorship but also of when we can = intervene "without being taken to court". And, yes, we do have a specific reason for asking the question. While I do = some other research on this, I thought I might concurrently tap the best = resource I've ever found - LM_NET.
