Here is a hit of responses to my request for sites with historical census information. Our USII teacher was doing a project with historical census and we thought the listed site was helpful for students. http://fisher.lib.Virginia.edu/census/ (Note: several people suggested the above site) *** Try genealogy sites. They have lots of census material transcribed. *** There is a book that gives such info...Historical Statistics of the United States from Colonial Times to 1970...pub. by the US Gov't. *** Try http://icg.fas.harvard.edu/~census *** I used Statistical Resources on the Web at: http://www.lib.umich.edu/libhome/Documents.center/stats.html clicked on Demographics, and scrolled down to Census of Population and Housing, Historical. There your teacher might check out "Census Data, 1790-1860" and "Census Data (Census Bureau)" for housing and population data. A little more surfing throughout the choices here may find more statistics of interest. Hope this helps. *** Have you tried going to the Census Bureau and doing their search for historical data? We've used the 1990 data from there. http://www.census.gov/main/www/srchtool.html http://www.npg.org/facts/world_pop_year.htm *** Thank you.
