Automation Standardization...

...is it necessary? We have 10 sites (11 counting the District Media
Center) all automated.  At one time we were all running Winnebago, but some
have been looking at changing for various reasons.  The others are happy
where they are and the Media Center has been using completely different
software for the past year.  At one time we were thinking of having the
catalog available to every library...it never happened and now with the
Internet capabilities concerning access to the catalog, is standardization
(each site using the same automation software) really all that important?
I'd like to hear from any of you either in a similiar situation or if you
have an opinion on the matter.  Thanks!
