ate: Fri, 5 Mar 1999 11:36:48 +0100 From: Karen Trukovich <st_trukovich@neonet.k12.oh.us> Subject: Woodsong - Fiction/Nonfiction? Some time ago I posted a request for the title of a picture about a little girl that passes food to concentration camp prisoners until she is killed herself. Thank you to the many people who responded. The book is "Rose Blanche" by Roberto Innocenti. It is published by Creative Education. According to Amazon.com the hardback was reissued in 1996, ISBN 0152009183, list price $17.00 and the library binding, ISBN 087191944X is available on back order no price listed. Someone also recommended a new picture book, "Hiding From the Nazis" by David Adler, based on the true story of Lore Baer, a child who is listed on the Wiesenthal Center's page about child victims of the Holocaust http://www.wiesenthal.com/children/ and the 208 page bio of children's author/illustrator Anita Lobel, "No Pretty Pictures". My library assistant just brought this to my attention. In our library several copies of the book Woodsong are shelved in the nonfiction section of the library with the dewey nomber 796.5 (Outdoor Life). However, several other copies are also shelved in the fiction section. I looked at the card catalogs of two local public libraries and they have it in th fiction section. I also looked at the book and read that it is a true story of how Gary Paulsen travels with his sled dogs. How do the rest of you handle the shelving of this book? I' like to keep it in nonfiction, but am afraid it won't circulate as well as it would if it were in the fiction section. If this question was posted before on LM_NET, I apologize.
