A Grade Eight teacher in our school is concerned that one of his students has handed in a short story which he has plagerized. It is the story of a young boy in Texas during the hot summer months of July and August. The family would like an airconditioner but can't afford one. So their windows are open. Suddenly things begin to mysteriously disappear. Mom's car keys, money off his brother's dresser, his "shooter" marbles, Mom's jewellery, and finally the house key. He happens to see a furry tail disappearing out an upstairs window and realizes that a squirrel has been stealing all these things and eventually climbs up and recovers everything from the tree outside the house. Any chance that any of you have read this short story or something very similar? We'd appreciate your help.
