I agree that we all need to help our students cut down on excessive printing, but I wonder if encouraging "cut and paste" is really the best way. Yes, it does reduce the amount of paper used, but it may also encourage students to "cut and paste" right into their document, without giving proper credit. At the very least, it makes it easy for a student to change a few words and then claim that they didn't copy. I prefer teaching our students to take notes from text, and printing only those pictures that will actually be used. Old-fashioned? Yes. Hard to do? Yes. Does it work? Yes.
