GEN: Poem/Speech for Audition

Hello LM_NETters!

A colleague's 11-year-old son is auditioning for placement in a
performing arts magnet school.  He has up to three minutes for his
presentation.  He would like to do something by an African American
author; poem, speech, play excerpt etc.  Any suggestions?  Thanks for
your expertise!
