TECH scanners

The scanner I'm using to check out books in my middle school came from
Follett and cost six hundred dollars. I'm looking for a scanner for my
elementary school but can't imagine where I'm ever going to find another six
hundred dollars to spend on it. Does anyone have experience with other
brands of scanners? My catalogs list several brands and the prices listed
are considerably less. But a lot of the techie talk used to describe various
models is unfamilar to me. Anyone have any words of wisdom on the subject?
