GEN: BUFFY ALERT: Food for thought

Daer Colleagues,

I forwarded the earlier message today regarding Buffy to my step-daughter,
an avid Buffy viewer and soon-to-be MSIMS graduate. She has an interesting
perspective which relates to how many of feel about our work in school
libraries. Here are her comments.

Oh, goodness.  I think its a false alarm.  This must be a passage from one
of the "novels" that are inspired by the show.  While the show certainly
gives a warped view of librarians, it is in some ways a very flattering
one. And while it is true that the library is certainly never filled with
students, it is presented as the nerve center in the fight against evil.
Somebody could have a lot of fun writing an analysis of the show I'm sure.

Have you watched it yet, Peter?  You ought to.  Here's a bit of trivia for
you--last week they decided to delay showing a new episode (until last
night) in recognition of the events in Colorado.  I thought that that was
an unusual demonstration of respect from a tv show.  At least that's what I
heard.
