Sorry to tell you this after the fact, but you could file the ideas for next year. This morning in celebration of Cinco de Mayo we set up a display in the LMC with artifacts from Mexico, flags, books (celebrations, costumes, cookbooks, atlases,Mexico) and played Mexican music. During the morning recesses we served hot tortillas with those tiny tooth picks that have Mexico's flag on them and played the music again. During lunch recess we helped students in the LMC to make colorful tissue paper flowers using red, green and white tissue. I used the book -Paper-Cutting Stories for Holidays and Special Events_ by Valerie Marsh to storytell the events that led to the celebration of Cinco de Mayo and students cut out the "answer" to the story...which was a French solider and a Mexican soldier shaking hands. This took only about 10-15 minutes per class so I did some at the end of their scheduled lessons, and scheduled in as many other classes as I had time for. The students enjoyed these activities in the LMC!
