I find it unbelievable that in this day and time with emphasis on reading and technology that this country has states that permit school systems to cut librarian / media coordinator positions. The President of the United States strongly and publicly supports these positions. I have several questions I would like to ask on behalf of these librarians / media coordinators. Where is ALA's public support for public school librarians? Where is American Association of School Librarians's support? Information Power ? Where is NEA's public support? Where is the Southern Association of Accreditation's public support? Where is the state department of public instruction's public support? Why are school libraries not addressed by professors in educational courses for future teachers and principals at the college and university levels? Why are school libraries not addressed in professional journals for classroom teachers and principals? Am I the only media specialist that feels this way? Thank heavens, I work in North Carolina.
