My daughter asked me this yesterday, and I didn't have an answer for her. What has become of the "class play?" When I was in grade school, each class was obligated to put on a class play for the rest of the school (and parents) in the auditorium. This went on right up to 8th grade. We were going through the old family photos, and she saw dozens of pictures of me in all my class plays throughout the years. There I was, as a rosebud in 1st grade, a pilgrim in second, a policewoman in 3rd. I have no pictures of class plays in my kids' books. I have taught and subbed in several western NY districts, and I have not witnessed even one class play. Several schools have a play once or twice a year (huge, musical productions, like Fiddler on the Roof or Harvey), but I have not seen or heard of one little class play that includes everyone in a classroom or homeroom.
