I disagree. I think this is a battle worth fighting, whether or not it is
eventually lost. If we all refuse to fight individual battles, the war for
Intellectual Freedom and 1st amendment rights will be lost. Will it be
messy and painful? Likely -- my challenge experience certainly was. Would
I do it again if necessary. YES.

Selecting Rats Saw God for a senior high school is not a mistake. It's a
great book that many of my kids have read and liked. My psychology classes
use it. It is a legitimate and worthwhile addition to the collection.

Okay, getting back off of soapbox. What a couple of weeks! :)

I liked the book, but it is not going to a battle you can win to keep it =
in a public school library. Lose gracefully, say you made a mistake =
buying a good book for the wrong environment, keep your credibility and =
avoid future challenges. If you fight, you are going to have these people =
going through your library with a fine tooth comb looking for other books =
to challlange.

That's my humble opinion.

I just received word that Rob Thomas' Rats Saw God is being challenged
at our 9-12 public school. Our IMC meeting is Wednesday AM and I'll get
the specifics then. In order to prepare I've printed up all the reviews
I can find, but I'm wondering if any one has text of an interview with
the author or has had a challenge on this book. Thanks for any
additional suggestions you can give me.
