Dear LMNetters, I am the chairman of a summer writing contest sponsored by the Friends of my local library. We invite children in neighboring schools to submit a story, poem, or non-fiction piece. We have three age divisions: 8-10, 11-13, and 14-16. We have found that kids often enter work that has been part of a school assignment during the year, rather than a new piece written during the summer. In an effort to encourage new writing, we are going to have a selection of themes or topics for the contest. But what? The themes have to be broad enough and creative enough to attract entrants, something fun for summer, not like an assignment. I hope you can help me by sending me some ideas for this contest. Thank you very much in advance.
