Original message: I am looking for a paperback supplier with at least a 25-30% discount. It is for a teacher so the books do not need cataloging. She is looking for books to support the social studies curriculum, and the titles she has told me are fairly common. I have used Himber's in the past that no longer exists, and, yes, I do know about Powell's. HITS: Kathy, I've always liked Bookmen's out of Minneapolis. They have a good fill rate, give about a 40% discount, and ship quickly and, it seems, inexpensively. They will look books up for you and tell you how many they have on hand. Their website is: http://www.bookmen.com Address is 525 N. Third St., Minneapolis, MN 55401, 1-800-328-8411; Fax 1-800-266-5636. Perfection Learning Corporation 1000 North Second Ave. P.O. Box 500 Logan, IA 51546-1099 1-800-831-4190 Please return the information to the list. Now that Adams News in Seattle has closed I don't have any place to go. Thanks, Reesa Kathy: Try Ingram. 1-800-937-5300. melissa Try The Bookmen Inc. http://www.bookmen.com/index.html How about The Book Bin in Salem. They have a great selection of used paperbacks. They are usually in pretty good condition. Joan Permabound gives our school district a 32% discount and no shipping charges. Don't know if that is a product of a deal worked out with the School District or just a general policy of the company. Worth checking out. Their toll-free number is 1-800-637-6581. Peggy J Smith I am responding to your note because I usually I only help with library questions on this listserv but I work for a book service to schools called Gardner's Book Services check the website at www.gbsbooks.com .. We give 30% discount on paperback books and that discount increases in accordance to the quanity purchases to 3% additional discount for 100 books and an additional 5% for over 200 books....this discount is to schools on their P.O's but the shipping to you may wipe that out? If you would like a quote you can always Fax the list to 602-863-2400 and we can give you an estimate on your request... We ship to CA, NV and NM often and the shipping is not bad.. so you may want to at least check with us... Jeannette M. Croft Library Consultant - GBS Books4School P.O. Box 2237 Madison, WI 53701-2237 www.books4school.com For orders over $250, there is a 30% discount and the shipping is free. We use the bookmen in Minnesota. Excellent service. http://www.bookmen.com I always recommend Mackin out of Minnesota. Just be sure to indicate the books are not for a library and do not need cataloging or processing. Both Ingram andd Mackin have done well for us in the past. I use Baker and Taylor and get a discount because of belonging to the local Cooperative. They discount most paperbacks 40% and hardcover 43%. You can get the cataloging or you don't have to. It costs about $.54/title. I would imagine you would belong to some buying group, if not the Coop maybe your ISD or REMC? Heidi Rawson-Ketchum, Librarian Someone gave this address to me, but I have not contacted them, so I can't personally recommend them. Dover Thrift Editions Dover Publications, Inc. 31 East 2nd Street Mineola, NY 11501 or AKJ Educational Services 5609-2A Fishers Lane Rockville, MD 29852 800-922-6066 Just use barnsandnoble.com (bn.com); they're great esp. if you don't need cataloging. Carole Braun. Thank you for all your help.
