How about some of the picture book biographies that are being published?
They are very enjoyable and someone should read them<wink>--they are at
the 6th grade reading level so too difficult for 2nd thru 4th gr.
readers who would be most attracted to them. Ex. Joan of Arc; The
Librarian Who Measured the World; The Bard of Avon; Cleopatra; The
Picture Book Biographies by Adler; Lives of...series; etc. I have nearly
all the titles available in this format and no takers--too hard for
lower elementary students and too short or too pictoral for older
students (so say the teachers-so, so say the kids). Who do you suppose
they have in mind as an audience when they publish them??? They do make
great read alouds however.Hope your student population can enjoy
them--maybe you can get the teachers to use them as introductory
material in social study classes.
