I am posting a hit for recipes of Saudi Arabia. I appreciate all the
help I was give. This is a great group.

WORLD SEARCH CD, c1998:
Date-Nut Sweets

1 cup almonds, blanched and chopped
1 cup walnuts or hazelnuts, chopped
1 cup dates, fresh or dried, finely chopped
Confectioners' sugar

Combine the almonds, walnuts or hazelnuts, and dates and mix together as
best you can. Dust a work surface and rolling pin with confectioners's
sugar. Roll out the mixture into a square, about 1/2-inch thick. Cut
into 1-inch squares and sprinkle with confectioners' sugar on all sides.
Serves 6.

I was given your address by our Media Specialist here in Orlando. I'm
the Technology Coordinator at Carver Middle School. As I lived in Saudi
Arabia for ten years, they thought I might be able to assist you.
My home address is <knockie@aol.com> If you email me there, I might be
able to locate the recipes. However, Saudi desserts are super sweet,
much like the Greek Boklava (sp?), crisp flower bits drenched in honey.
The better traditional dessert may be difficult to make as it's usually
purchased, like ripe semi dried dates with almond replacing the
pit...very nice.
Other traditional Middle Eastern foods which are easy to get would be
hummas (avialable at health food stores...not the flavored kind) served
with split pita bread. There's also a delightful, though probably kid
gagging, roasted egg plant, which is mixed with tahini (sesame seed
paste),lemon juice and garlic...again served with pita bread.
The Saudis also have the world's highest per person consumption of
chicken, which they usually have gas roasted on a spit (now very popular
in America!). Your kids may be interested in knowing that when a guest
is present at dinner, the adult and teen males eat together and the
females eat in another room. The guest rarely, if ever, see the women
on a dinner visit. However, a female child maybe shown to the guest.
Additionally, forks, spoons and knives are an option as food is usually
eaten with the right hand. The left hand is considered unclean.
