SOMEONE LOST A POET: A Tribute to Shel by Sandy Pomerantz Someone lost a poet. It's rather sad, but true. Someone lost a poet, And there's nothing they can do. His name was Mr. Silverstein; His poems were fun, his wit quite keen; His works for kids were clean, clean, clean! Someone lost a poet. Someone lost a poet Whose poems were often sung - "The Unicorn", "A Boy Named Sue", They pleased both old and young. His gifts to kids one can't ignore, Nor is his adult stuff a bore. We always wanted more, more, more! Someone lost a poet. Someone lost a poet; He had a heart attack. Someone lost a poet, And they know he won't be back. On tape and disk his voice was weird; He sported both bald head and beard When we heard our eyes were teared, teared, teared! Someone lost a poet. Someone lost a poet Who was an attic light! Someone lost a poet; He's "falling up" tonight! I'll bet he's just around the bend! We'll find him where our sidewalks end, A missing piece who was a friend, friend, friend! Someone lost a poet!
