Rest of bookbag issue. We had a large coat stand but it has to be sturdy.... also if a student insisted on having his/her book bag and now-a-days I can agree (anyone can put something in it when not supervised) I would let them but then I would also ask for one shoe... they could not leave without the shoe so in exchange they would agree to a check of the book bag... I did the same "shoe" thing with borrowing pens, pencils etc.. *********************************************************** I implemented a no-bookbag policy in the library when I came to Xavier 12 years ago. When the library was renovated in 1996, part of the renovation is a large bookbag storage section: cubbies against the section leading up to the security gate. This deals with most of the problem; the theft part is dealt with by a security camera which tapes the area for most of the day. I put in the no bookbag rule after I fell over bags left here and there. Most of the time I don't have a problem; it cuts down theft a little, but not entirely. ****************************************************** We have a no bookbag/backpack policy, and we also have a designated entrance and exit, so we ask that the students retrieve what they need and keep their bags near the exit.
